An armed gang this week raided the official residence of a northern Nigerian state governor, carting away valuables and cash, officials said Thursday.

The robbers raided the home of Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi on Tuesday, while he was away in the federal capital Abuja for an official engagement, staff in his office told AFP.

Officials said valuables and undisclosed sums of money were stolen by the robbers.

No-one has been arrested over the incident, they said.

They added that the governor has since ordered that security be beefed up -- LAGOS (AFP)
