The European Union Monday called Algeria to release the Moroccan prisoners arrested in the camps of Tindouf, in the southwestern part of Algeria.

The call was made by Spain’s delegate, which is currently chairing the EU council, at the ongoing 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

“The European Union calls Algeria to immediately release all prisoners of war and urges all parties concerned to back international efforts made in this connection,” said the delegate, who was also speaking on behalf of the EU, central and Eastern Europe and of the Associate members of the EU (Cyprus and Malta), according to Maghreb Arabe Presse.

A total of 1362 Moroccans have been detained in Tindouf, some of them for more than 20 years, in defiance of all human rights principles. (Albawaba.com)
