ALBAWABA - As Syria is slowly recovering following the fall of the old regime led by Bashar Assad, the European Union confirmed that it suspended some sanctions imposed during the civil war.

According to the EU's official statement, sanctions on Syria in various sections and fields including energy, transport, and banking sectors will be removed.

The EU added it is seeking to help rebuild Syria after the overthrow of President Bashar Assad last December following an operation launched by the opposition against the old regime.

The European Union is also working to build ties with the new administration, which is demanding the lifting of Western sanctions imposed on Damascus during Assad's rule.
