Iran and the European Union (EU) will hold talks Tuesday in the Iranian capital of Tehran on bilateral and regional matters, the Iranian foreign ministry said Sunday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Ahani will head the Iranian team in the talks, which are held every six months in either Iran or the European country holding the rotating EU presidency, the foreign ministry said.
Danish Deputy Foreign Minister Friis Arne Petersen is representing the European side, Denmark's ambassador to Tehran Joergen Reimers told AFP news agency.
Both sides are expected to discuss the situation of Afghan refugees living in Iran, as well as Iranians living in Europe. In addition, they are set to exchange views on the "war on terror", human rights issues and efforts to combat drug-trafficking in Iran, which is one of the main routes for smuggling from Afghanistan.
Moreover, the two sides are also inclined to review the possibility of a US strike on Iraq, an action which Iran and most EU members have come out against. (Albawaba.com)
