EU hopes release of British sailors will help to end Iran nuclear crisis

The European Union Thursday welcomed the release of the 15 British marines and sailors by Iran and their return to the UK and hoped that the EU would work to find solution to the dispute about Iranian nuclear program.

The EU worked at the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take Iranian nuclear case to the Security Council in a bid to prevent IAEA from verifying the national program after over 2,500 person/day inspection on all Iranian nuclear sites.

Iran has reaffirmed commitment to Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and Safeguards of the agency. IAEA Cameras are installed over all Iranian nuclear sites monitoring them round-the-clock.

"From the very beginning of this crisis, the European Union lent its support in calling for a rapid solution, and repeatedly contacted the Iranian authorities to intercede strongly on behalf of the 15 British sailors and marines," said a statement by the current German EU Presidency.

The statement said that the European Union would find solution to other dispute, a reference to anti-Iran resolutions the EU pushed at the Security Council on nuclear program.

The EU recalled an offer made by the Foreign Ministers of China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States to seek a solution to the controversy over the Iranian nuclear program through dialogue and negotiation.
