etisalat pioneers investing in employee excellence to sustain industry leadership

Etisalat’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Nasser bin Obood, today represented the UAE telco at the Abu Dhabi Quest for Excellence Summit, which was held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, at the Emirates Palace today. He presented some of the company’s critical strategies and philosophies for developing and sustaining leadership in the telecommunications services sector.

“Etisalat has always innovated and driven forward the boundaries in the field of telecommunications services, achieving excellence in all disciplines,” said Nasser bin Obood, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Etisalat. “In following this philosophy and through developing a strong culture we have become the largest company in the UAE and one of the top five in the Gulf. This is a major achievement in its own right, but to do so, we have expanded into fourteen new countries in just three years, something we could not have achieved without a strong vision, inspiring leadership and a united corporation.”

Nasser bin Obood stood with a panel of industry representatives from across the UAE discussing strategies and sharing best practise case studies for helping other companies to achieve success. He highlighted the investment the company has made in its staff, facilities, services and also in the local community as an ‘investment in excellence’.

“One of the fundamental skills that we promote, I am proud to say, is our reputation for community involvement (CSR) and ethical business practise. We also support the local community through education initiatives – combined with our technical knowledge and our extensive research and development, Etisalat is the UAE’s primary investor in excellence,” Mr Obood continued.

Etisalat has won accolades from across the region for its nationalization programme, as well as for its Community Involvement (CSR). In October, Etisalat’s CEO, Mohammad Al Qamzi was awarded by CEO Magazine for his efforts in contributing to the social and economical status of the UAE adding to an award that Etisalat won in 2006 from Arabian Business magazine, also for CSR.

“In order for Etisalat to sustain its culture for excellence, we begin training our staff at the earliest stages. We have therefore invested in the Etisalat University College in Sharjah, for engineering graduates, and also, established Etisalat Academies in Dubai, Egypt and Sudan to help provide technical and functional skills and experience of working within a telecommunications environment,” Nasser concluded.

The Abu Dhabi Excellence Summit aimed to highlight the experiences of a number of distinguished UAE and GCC leaders with unique styles of leaderships towards achieving excellence. The summit targeted young entrepreneurs who are trying to start a business and to inspire them so that they take the lead in the rapid growth of the UAE economy.
