Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national airline, has taken special measures to keep its Guests informed about new EU rulings for carry-on luggage which came into effect on 6 November.

The new regulations affect Guests who are departing from, and transferring flights within, the European Union, and focus on the amount of liquids that each Guest can take on board the aircraft.

“It is a vital part of our communications to keep our Guests informed at all times about regulation changes which could have an impact on their journey with Etihad Airways,” said Ian Ferguson-Brown, head of brand management and communications, Etihad.

“Etihad always takes every measure possible to communicate directly with our Guests at every stage of their travel, from the point of reservation to disembarking the aircraft at their destination. It is this attention to detail that ensures our Guests continue to choose to fly with Etihad.”

The new EU regulations have been brought in as an ongoing reaction to last summer’s threats to civil aviation security that affected the industry.

Etihad has used a number of different channels to inform its Guests of the new changes, including notification via the Etihad website, the point of reservation, and at check-in.

While drinks, toiletries and cosmetics are now allowed to be carried onto aircraft, the capacity of each container must not be in excess of 100ml maximum each.

These items must then be carried separately to the rest of the hand luggage in a transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, allowing the liquids to be screened separately during airport security checks.

“Etihad will continue to monitor all global directives affecting aviation travel, with the safety and security of all Etihad Airways’ Guests remaining our utmost priority,” concluded Ferguson-Brown.

With one bag permitted per person, the combined volume of this liquid allowance has been restricted to a maximum of 1 litre.

Etihad is therefore encouraging its Guests to pack any larger containers into their checked-in luggage.

Medicines and special dietary requirements, such as baby food, are exempted from this ruling, as are all liquids purchased either once a passenger has cleared airport security or on-board.
