Etihad Crystal Cargo, the cargo division of Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is introducing SMS tracking for UAE-based customers, giving them the opportunity to track their shipments via mobile telephone.
The new initiative continues Etihad Crystal Cargo’s drive towards providing its customers with the most advanced air cargo services available, convenient 24/7 flexibility and total information transparency along the supply chain.
By sending a text message with the “Airway Bill Number(s)” to the number “3922746” or typing “EYCARGO” on the keypad, the customer gets real-time information about the status of their consignments directly onto the display of their mobile phone.
“The introduction of SMS tracking technology clearly is another important step to fulfil our core promises of Ultimate Information Transparency, 21st Century Technology and Total Customer Focus – bringing the information to the fingertips of our customers,” said Ingo Roessler, Vice President Cargo, Etihad Airways.
The new service comes at a cost of a standard text message, offering the customer an additional 24/7 option to track their shipment to the online tracking tool provided on www.crystalcargo.ae .
The technology used is an SMS Gateway solution for two-way transmission of text messages called “SMS Xprez” and supplied by Ontrack Systems (UAE) Ltd.
SMS Xprez is linked to Etihad Crystal Cargo’s IT platform, CRISTAL (Cargo Reservations Information Sales Tracking Accounting and Logistics), picking up the information on the shipment from the system and sending an update to the customer.
“Face-to-face contacts and meetings are extremely important in the United Arab Emirates, and the new SMS tracking tool enables our customers in the country to conveniently get the very latest information on their shipment anytime, anywhere,” continued Roessler.
In addition to tracking, the new technology also offers capabilities of incoming SMS analysis and generation of MIS (Management Information System) reports, enabling Etihad Crystal Cargo for example to send out information on new routes to the customer.
