ALBAWABA - According to local reports, a military helicopter operated by the Ethiopian Air Force crashed in Bahir Dar. It is still unclear if the plane carried soldiers or government officials onboard.

The crash happened about noon at Belay Zeleke International Airport in Bahir Dar, the administrative center of the Amhara regional administration.

Local news sites, including Ethio News and Meseret Media, confirmed the tragic crash, without further details surrounding the number of casualties. According to Meseret Media, an airport employee acknowledged that the collision occurred, but no other information was offered.

As of right now, Ethiopian Airlines flights as well as all other flights to and from Bahir Dar have been suspended in the wake of the event. Passengers and local sources have verified this.

According to reports, defense head Field Marshal Berhanu Jula traveled to Bahir Dar on Friday to meet with regional defense authorities. State media released a photo of him receiving the traditional honor vestment known as Kaba.

According to Ethio News, Asres Mare Damte, leader of the Fano troops' political division in Gojjam, vaguely stated that "a miracle occurs before the vestment even leaves Berhanu Jula's shoulder,".

According to sources, two military helicopters have flown frequently in the vicinity during the last two days.
