ALBAWABA- During his visit to Cairo for the Developing Eight Islamic Countries (D-8) Summit, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and addressing critical regional and international challenges.

 Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s commitment to strengthening ties with Egypt, particularly in defense, energy, transportation, and development, while aiming to increase trade volume between the two nations to $15 billion.

 Both leaders expressed the importance of bolstering cooperation to promote stability and growth in the region. They also addressed the prolonged Syrian crisis, emphasizing the need to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity and political unity, with Erdogan affirming Turkey’s support for Syrian reconstruction and reconciliation efforts. 

On Gaza, Erdogan stressed the urgency of achieving an immediate and sustainable ceasefire, while Sisi underscored Egypt's mediation efforts to facilitate the release of hostages and ensure unhindered humanitarian aid. 

The leaders also discussed the conflicts in Libya, Sudan, Somalia, and Syria, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding sovereignty and security in these nations.

 They condemned Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty, calling for an immediate halt to such actions. 

The meeting took place against the backdrop of significant developments in Syria, including the fall of the Assad regime's control over Damascus, which Israel has exploited to intensify airstrikes and expand territorial control in the Golan Heights.

 Erdogan and Sisi reaffirmed their shared vision for peace and stability, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts to address these crises and promote reconciliation.
