The Russian ambassador in Amman said Tuesday that President Vladimir Putin would soon be visiting a number of Arab countries including Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, and Palestine.
Alexander Ivanov did not elaborate on the time or dates of Putin's tour, Kuwait’s official news agency (KUNA) reported.
In an interview with the Amman-based Alarab Alyom, Ivanov said Moscow rejected the idea of establishing a demilitarized Palestinian state, “because it will mean that it lacks sovereignty.”
The diplomat added that a demilitarized zone could be determined in an agreement with Israel, similar to the situation with Egypt.
The ambassador questioned, said KUNA, how an unarmed country would be able to defend itself from foreign threats.
The issue of Iraq, Ivanov said, was of a political nature and could be solved within the framework of the UN Security Council, which is why Moscow is exerting its efforts with the concerned countries to accept Russia’s proposals on the Arab state – Albawaba.com
