Energy Management Services (EMS), the leading energy management and energy conservation company in the Middle East, has installed solutions that will enable Sharjah`s Downtown Centre Shopping Mall and Apartment Hotel to reduce its annual operating costs by 30 per cent.
EMS was contracted by Mohammed Omar Bin Haider Group to provide consultancy at the design stage. EMS`s consultancy services included a detailed energy audit study, review of the cooling load calculations, optimization of specified equipment and re-design of lighting systems.
“Mohammed Omar bin Haider Group showed deep understanding of energy conservation issues as they began building Downtown Centre,” said Khaled Bushnaq, Managing Director, EMS. “This enabled us to take an integrated approach towards energy saving across the property and work directly with different contractors to put in place systems that could achieve energy conservation from day one. As a result, we have reduced the number of chillers intended for the shopping mall, which led to an immediate reduction in the capital cost of the investment. We have also introduced variable controls for car parks and air handling units as well as energy efficient lighting and lighting controls, thereby substantially bringing down significantly their operating costs.”
“In a project of the size and scale of Downtown Centre, energy bills represent a significant part of running costs,” said Omar Bin Haider, Deputy Chairman of Mohammed Omar Bin Haider Group. “As an organisation active in the real estate development sector, hotel industry and general trading, we are fully aware of the need to reduce operating costs as well as capital cost to increase the overall profitability of the project. By working with EMS in creating energy conservation solutions, we have been able to drive down the running costs from the construction and design stage.”
EMS is driven by the belief that sustained energy management solutions are part of the controllable budgetary expenditure for any organisation. It specialises in building customised energy management solutions for existing facilities as well as energy optimisation solutions for projects at the design stage. In both categories, EMS clients cover a wide spectrum of user groups, including residential complexes, individual villas, community centres, commercial complexes, shopping centres and hotels & resorts.
”The demand for energy management solutions is growing rapidly, as organizations become more aware of the financial benefits they deliver,” said Bushnaq. “These solutions are particularly relevant in the UAE where massive construction projects are being undertaken using the most advanced technology. Our energy management solutions can complement this technology, and contribute in a large measure in achieving the goal of reducing the overall operating costs.”
