A newlywed husband in the UAE is suing his runaway bride for one million dirham ($272,000) because she left him after just 15 minutes of less-than-blissful marriage. The hapless groom spent Dh150,000 on the wedding reception, which was attended by hundreds of guests, reported the Gulf News on Monday.
“But no sooner were he and his bride alone in the marital home than she walked out the door and returned to her parents. The husband said that his bride did not find him appealing. Several mediators tried to persuade the wife to return to him, but she was adamant,” the report said.
When the husband realized a peaceful settlement was out of the question, he sought court action to order his wife to return to him. She still refused, and filed for divorce. The court prohibited the woman from marrying for five years “because she had disobeyed her husband.”
She replied that this meant nothing to her since she was a working woman and had always wanted to stay with her parents. The husband then filed a demand for compensation. He asked the court to order her to pay him Dh1 million to cover his financial losses and the scandal brought upon him and his family – Albawaba.com
