Emirates airline and Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer, announced Monday that they were considering the possibility of establishing a joint venture company to provide a range of aviation services.
The services offered would include trading in used aircraft and used spares, as well as airline consultancy, according to the UAE’s official news agency (WAM).
Consultancy services would be offered to airlines to cover items such as fleets, routes and business planning, the agency added.
Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said in an official statement that “the long-standing close partnership between Emirates and Airbus will be strengthened by this venture."
“We look forward to further building on our already strong ties,” he added.
On the used aircraft spares front, the aim would be to act as a re-marketing agent or broker, realizing value for airlines from assets that are no longer needed, said the agency.
The aerospace industry giant and the national carrier have been working together in recent months to conduct in-depth feasibility studies, and on Monday signed the MOU on the creation of a jointly owned company.
For his part, Airbus chief executive office Noel Forgeard said, “We have identified an opportunity to combine our world class qualities and expertise to deliver a new range of services to the airline industry.”
The joint venture will be created during the first half of 2002 and will be based in Dubai with equal participation by both sides – Albawaba.com
