One of the world’s foremost technical conferences for the energy industry – the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) – is due to be held in Dubai in December.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the event will combine the strengths of the world’s four largest representative bodies of exploration and production professionals – The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).
It is set to be one of the most substantial gatherings of the energy industry in the region’s history.
“This year’s event – subtitled ‘A Changing World: Interdependence, Innovation and Implementation’ – confronts head-on the major strategic challenges facing our industry. IPTC will provide an important platform for knowledge exchange and skills development, supporting our efforts and investments in developing people and technology across the region,” said Adham Alkady, Vice President, Baker Hughes, Business Development - Middle East & Asia Pacific.
“I look forward to welcoming our colleagues to this cornerstone event in the energy profession’s calendar,” added Marc Durandeau, IPTC Programme Subcommittee Co-Chair, Geosciences & Reservoir Manager, TOTAL Dubai.
The conference will examine critical issues including exploration, environmental issues and solutions to the challenge of energy constraints. According to research from the International Energy Agency, primary energy demands will more than double by 2030, so the next session of the Conference will provide a critical forum for senior energy professionals to discuss how they can provide sufficient supply to meet global needs.
Executive committee co-chairpersons, Farouk Al Zanki, Chairman and Managing Director, Kuwait Oil Co., and Tony Hayward, Group Chief Executive, BP, are both set to speak at the event, and have encouraged fellow professionals to attend. The opening session of IPTC will include addresses from Al Zanki and Hayward, as well as dignitaries from the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Oman. This will be followed by over 50 technical sessions, special panels on climate change, and a series of panel discussions featuring leading industry experts.
With more than 300 presentations covering a diverse range of subjects, including production, midstream gas, and health and safety in the oil industry, the conference is positioned to drive forward discussion about the contemporary and future needs of the energy industry.
IPTC will also feature an extensive exhibition showcasing products and services for the region and the world.
IPTC 2007 will take place 4–6 December at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
