ALBAWABA - The police identified and arrested the suspect who shot dead two Israeli embassy staff members near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC.
A couple, who were planning to get engaged, were killed in the shooting, which took place on Wednesday night, according to the Israeli ambassador to the US.
The Washington police confirmed that the suspect was identified as Elias Rodriguez, 30, from Chicago, adding that he shouted "Free Free Palestine" while being arrested by the cops, police mentioned, according to CNN.
An eyewitness revealed to the American media outlet, Elias Rodriguez waited for the police to come for about 10 minutes before saying he "did it for Gaza."
US President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the families of two victims, posting on Truth Social that antisemitism, "hatred and Radicalism have no place" in the country.
US Home Secretary Kristi Noem posted on X regarding the shooting attack, saying: "Two Israeli Embassy staff were senselessly killed tonight near the Jewish Museum in Washington, DC. We are actively investigating and working to get more information to share. Please pray for the families of the victims. We will bring this depraved perpetrator to justice."
Furthermore, Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the attack on the Israeli Embassy staff members on Thursday, adding that he was "devastated" by what happened.
