ALBAWABA- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in Doha on Sunday, launching a Gulf tour with a focus on advancing bilateral ties and reviving efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza.
His visit to Qatar comes amid heightened diplomatic activity following a recent Cairo summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, where the leaders jointly condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire and the lifting of the blockade.
According to presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy, President Sisi is set to meet with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss key regional developments, foremost among them the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Discussions are expected to focus on how to restore a ceasefire and address Israel’s continued blockade and military operations.
The three leaders in Cairo had rejected what they described as Israel’s weaponization of humanitarian aid and denounced any plans for the forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
These concerns echo international condemnation of a controversial proposal—reportedly backed by Israeli officials and suggested by U.S. President Donald Trump—calling for the relocation of Gaza’s population, widely described as ethnic cleansing.
Sisi’s visit also includes meetings with members of Qatar’s business community to explore economic cooperation. Egypt and Qatar have both played pivotal roles in mediating ceasefire talks between Hamas and Israel.
Their joint efforts previously secured a temporary truce and prisoner exchange deal, which was subsequently violated by renewed Israeli assaults.
Observers say the Egyptian-Qatari talks may help revive diplomatic momentum, especially in light of President Trump’s recent claim that a Gaza deal may soon be reached. Sisi’s tour could thus be key to reinvigorating regional diplomacy amid one of the deadliest chapters in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
