Master Watchmaker Kurt Klaus, the man credited with single-handedly inventing the most accurate perpetual calendar in a mechanical watch, for prestigious Swiss Watch Manufacture IWC Schaffhausen conducted a Matchmaking Session for the VIP guests of Felopateer Palace in the Golf Club of The J.W Marriott Hotel in Egypt on Thursday 21st May.
In the company of prominent guests, such as Wasfy Wasef, Yousry George and his wife, Mohamed Saad and Amir Ramzy among others, living legend Kurt Klaus showed them how to disassemble and assemble a movement of a mechanical pocket watch.
A marvel of mechanical engineering that spells excellence, watches created by IWC Schaffhausen with movements created by Kurt Klaus, rank as highly coveted possessions around the world.
“Kurt Klaus is a living link to a bygone era of Watchmaking,” said Teresa Garin, Regional Marketing Manager of IWC Schaffhausen. “Mr. Klaus created a miracle of micro engineering with the Da Vinci as it is mechanically programmed to give the wearer the right date and time until the year 2500, requiring only a minute adjustment about once a century,” he added.
He noted that the story of this watch began half a century ago when young Kurt, having finished four years of watchmaking school presented himself at IWC’s manufactory in Schaffhausen (Switzerland).
To envisage a mechanical product that would work for centuries takes a special turn of mind - the mechanical masterpiece is typical of the patient and far-sighted man - Kurt Klaus.
The 75-year old genius has been in the Watchmaking industry for 51 years and has trained a series of Master Watchmakers who now work for the most prestigious Watch Manufactures around the world.
The legendary Kurt Klaus is the first Master Watchmaker to have a timepiece named after him from IWC Schaffhausen: IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Kurt Klaus Edition.
