French intelligence agents have detained eight suspects in connection with a synagogue attack earlier this year in Tunisia, which killed 19 people - including 14 German tourists, according to French police.
The suspects were arrested near Lyon in southern France and were being investigated by agents from France's DST counterintelligence service, according to The Associated Press. The service did not immediately release the names of those arrested or provide further details.
The 2,000-year-old Ghriba synagogue, the oldest in Africa, was full of tourists at the time of the April 11 explosion in Djerba, some 375 miles south of Tunis. The synagogue marks the symbolic center of the Muslim North African country's approximately 2,000-strong Jewish community, and is visited by pilgrims from all around the world.
German investigators, for their part, have stated there is evidence suggesting ties between the blast outside the synagogue and Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network. (Albawaba.com)
