The European Investment Bank is willing to help finance telecommunications projects in Lebanon, a high-ranking EIB delegation told Lebanon’s Telecommunications Minister Jean-Louis Qordahi on Friday.
Led by EIB Vice President Francis Mayer, the five-member delegation also included officials from the lending department, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
Qordahi explained that the ministry had endorsed a telecommunications law to help organize and loosen government control over the sector, in preparation for privatization.
Among the projects on the ministry’s agenda are installation of payphones nationwide and the establishment of a data transmission network. The ministry also plans to update its billing system and initiate other projects to help reduce phone costs to internet lines, said the paper.
The EIB delegation praised the projects and said a team from the bank would return in June to follow up on their implementation – Albawaba.com
