ehs marks world environment day

fun and games organized to spread public awareness

EHS, the Environment, Health and Safety arm of Dubai World on Saturday (June 16) marked World Environment Day 2007 with a host of activities at Seih Al Shuaib.

Held in collaboration with the Emirates Marine Environment Group at the Natural Protected Site, the event was designed to generate public awareness about the environment, its protection and conservation through fun and games.

Teams of volunteers, including the circulation department team of Dubai World’s Arabic language weekly tabloid, Al Alam, competed against each other to plant mangroves, fill tanks with sea water, and clean up the beach.

The winners were rewarded with prizes that included gold bars.

Ahmed A. Hussain, CEO of EHS, said:  “The protection and conservation of the environment is one of the primary responsibilities of EHS, and instead of holding lectures and seminars, we organized fun and games to spread awareness about the environment.  We believe this hands-on approach, which actually required participants to plant saplings or clean up the beach, provided a practical insight into what conservation is all about.

“Each one of us is a stakeholder in the health of the environment and this message came across quite clearly in this year’s World Environment Day celebrations organized by EHS.”

EHS has a proactive policy to take its message across to the rapidly expanding New Dubai region, where a majority of its activities are based.

Its annual calendar is packed with a range of events to raise public awareness about issues such as water conservation, health and safety standards at buildings and public places, fire drills, blood donations and beach clean-up activities.
