ehs endorses 'build safe dubai members charter agreement'

In an endeavour to complement efforts that begun since its inception, EHS, Environment, Health and Safety regulatory arm of Dubai World, endorsed the Build Safe Dubai members charter which was signed by 20 different contractors in UAE.

Mr. Ahmed Abdul Hussain, CEO EHS emphasized the important role that contractors play in the enhancement of safety measures and standards at the workplace.

In conformity with the Charter, the members are committed to working in partnership to implement activities aimed at helping authorities to significantly improve the emirates of Dubai‘s construction industry safety performance to the benefit of construction workers ,the general public ,all construction stakeholders, and the emirate of Dubai

Mr. Ahmed Abdul Hussain said: “Awareness of construction safety is not only helpful to all the parties in the construction industry, but also valuable to all the community .We pursue the goal of strengthening cooperation and links between competitors to help them channel their efforts to reinforce construction safety”.

“I am confident that through concerted efforts, the safety regulations will be dramatically improved in the future. We look forward to forge a safe working environment for our construction workers, thus elevating the safety image of construction industry to serve the sublime objectives of EHS “,he added.

The signatories to this members' charter believe that the initiatives can make a major contribution to lifting the standard of safety within the industry and reduce the pain and suffering of workers and the economic and social cost of workplace injury and illness.

The parties recognize that the emirate of Dubai’s construction industry is making a significant and positive contribution to the growth of the city’s economy and in attracting investment in Dubai.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mark Warrington, Vice President, Construction Safety, EHS: “This event is indeed praiseworthy, because it is a shining example that marks the commitment and determination of contractors to safety enhancement .We must reinforce the staunch support of the signatories today to achieve the mission of construction safety.”

He added,” establishment of a safe working environment is a universal concern to be addressed; this will be an ongoing task for all parties to co-operate and coordinate in this domain. Sharing of responsibility between competitors is indispensable to the delivery of seamless services”.
