Environment Health and Safety (EHS), the regulatory arm of Trakhees - Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), will join with the UAE municipalities next Sunday to mark the 28th annual Plantation Week, which will be held this year under the slogan “Together for a green UAE.”
As part of the activities, EHS, in co-ordination with Dubai Municipality, will distribute 1000 plants to schools and kindergartens in Dubai in order to promote the value of agriculture. It will also distribute environment friendly games that teach children how to preserve natural resources and to create awareness about the role of plants in reducing pollution and purifying the air.
Nazek Sabbagh, Managing Director, Environment, Health and Safety, said: “The events organized during the Plantation Week will serve all members of the society, creating awareness about the importance of preserving the environment by increasing planted area and taking care of plants and trees. These must be seen as a national duty. It will have considerable effect on preserving the soil, apart from its health and beautification aspects.”
Sabbagh added: “Through celebrating this occasion, EHS aims to improve the present environmental conditions near buildings and also at the new projects coming up in Dubai. Plants and trees increase oxygen in the air and reduce industrial pollution significantly. Islam has a very positive stand on agriculture and greenery. The Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) encouraged agriculture in general and the cultivation of fruit trees and legumes in particular. Islam emphasised that during war times warriors should not destroy agricultural and animal resources, but should preserve them.”
Nazek praised the efforts by UAE’s wise leadership, under the directions of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for expanding the country’s green areas and continue the environmental and plantation campaigns launched more than 30 years ago by the Late Sheikh Zayed, whose insight and determination have turned large parts of the desert into green paradises.
