EHS, the Environment, Health and Safety regulatory arm of Dubai World today (Thursday July 19) began a month long environmental and safety education campaign aimed at school-going children.
The programme, which includes activities such as fire-fighting and safety courses, a recycling competition, air pollution tests, building of a solar furnace and lectures on marine environment and its protection etc.
Ahmed Abdul Hussain, CEO of EHS said:
“The care and sustenance of the environment is the duty of every individual. Our future generations have the right to inherit a clean and healthy environment from us, and it is our duty to provide not only the means to achieve this clean environment, but also to educate them, and enable them to do the same for their children.”
Dr. Abdul Monem Al Marzouqi, Manager, Environmental Regulations, EHS, who is heading this month-long activity campaign said:
“Our objective is to package the environmental education in a simple manner and in a fun atmosphere, so that the students not only enjoy their summer break, but also learn something about their environment and safety.”
the students from different schools have been divided into three groups for the event, with activities taking place daily from July 19 – August 10, 2007 in collaboration with Emirates Marine Environment Group at the Emirates Envrionment Marine Habitat, Sieh Al Sheib.
During the course of the programme, students will also conduct a questionnaire survey for public on the Global Warming effect, and the impact of projects on the environment.
“Activities such as the air pollution test and the survey will give the kids hands on experience in environment awareness, and at the same time, make them aware of the impact that man-made activities have on the environment, and ways to limit this impact,” Dr. Abdul Monem added.
