Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher warned on Wednesday against "anticipating" the US terrorist attack investigations, after Israel's defense minister pointed a finger at Islamic extremists, reported AFP.
"We cannot anticipate the results of the investigation and make accusations without proof," over the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington with hijacked airliners, Maher told reporters.
"We must wait for the results of the inquiry and punish the authors of the attacks," he added.
Maher was responding to a question over comments by Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben Eliezer in connection with the attacks, for which the main suspect is Afghan-based Saudi militant Osama bin Laden.
"Terrorism by Islamic extremists represents the biggest threat to the free world," Ben Eliezer said on Tuesday.
"The aim of this terrorism is to destroy the foundations of democratic society and Westerners," the Israeli minister said.
In a televised interview with Dubai TV, Maher also said that if some nationals of the same country commit an act of terrorism, it is wrong to overgeneralize and punish the whole country and people, referring to reports about Arab and Muslim women being harassed in New York and Atlanta after the attacks on the US – Albawaba.com
