Seven Egyptian women have applied to fill vacancies as leaders of local communities, and the government says it has no objection to employing them if they meet the criteria.

Minister of Local Development Mustafa Abdel Qader was quoted by Al Akhbar Al Youm as saying that “the law treats men and women equally, so we welcome women in positions where they fit,” including local community leadership.

If accepted, the women will be presidents or vice presidents of local councils in towns and neighborhoods in different provinces – Albawaba.com
