An Egyptian medical team has developed a new blood test to detect the virus causing hepatitis group C with high accuracy reaching 98 percent, according to the daily Al Ahram.

According to the researchers, the new test is easy and can be completed in five minutes by placing a small blood sample on a slide saturated with certain chemicals while technicians need 10 day to come up with results applying the old test.

Professor of Immunology at George Washington University and chief researcher, Abdel Fattah Attallah, told the daily that the new method had been successfully tested on 310 cases.

“The test can be done on more than one blood sample simultaneously and a general practitioner can do it,” Atallah said.

“The test can be performed at small clinics as it needs only a small device to separate blood constituents. The American Microbiology magazine has accepted to publish it,” the Egyptian professor added.

There’s more good news, the professor said. The test costs only three percent of the original test’s cost -- Albawaba.com
