Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Yousef bin Alawi met in Cairo on Wednesday with Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak to review a number of issues related to the current situation in the Arab world, according to Kuwait News Agency.

A source close to the Egyptian presidency said that Bin Alawi handed Mubarak a letter from Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed related to coordination and consultation over the issues to be discussed at the upcoming Arab summit scheduled in Beirut.

The source added that the talks covered the current situation in the Middle East and the efforts made to stop the violence in the Palestinian territories, the Saudi initiative presented for the Arab summit in addition to bilateral relations.

Bin Alawi's visit to Cairo comes within the framework of ongoing Arab consultations and talks where Egyptian President Mubarak recently received letters from Jordan’s King Abdullah and Saudi King Fahd and will soon hold talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Egyptian minister of foreign affairs, Ahmed Maher declared recently that Cairo is carrying out intensive talks with Arab leaders aimed at unifying positions ahead of the Beirut summit. (Albawaba.com)
