Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak called a special cabinet meeting Sunday to discuss the situation in Syria after the death of President Hafez Assad, AFP reported, quoting the president's office.

Mubarak told reporters that it was too early to determine whether he would attend Assad's funeral but said Egypt "will certainly participate it in as soon as the place and date are set."

Assad's funeral service is scheduled to be held Tuesday in his home village of Kerdaha, 300 kilometers north of Damascus, according to Syrian officials.
