Trade between Egypt and Lebanon soared to $110 million last year, compared with $66.5 million in 1999, according to a report issued by the Egyptian trade representation office in Lebanon.
The report, cited by the weekly Middle East Times, said that trade between the two countries reached $65 million in 1998 and $74.5 in 1997.
Egyptian exports reached $86 million last year, rising by 68.6 percent from the previous year, despite the slowdown in the Lebanese economy, which led to a considerable decrease in imports, said the report.
Ways to further strengthen bilateral trade ties were among the issues discussed in Cairo last week during the meetings of the joint Egyptian-Lebanese higher commission.
The meetings were co-chaired by the two countries’ prime ministers, Atef Ebeid and Rafiq Hariri – Albawaba.com
