Newly appointed Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher told his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres Friday that the Jewish state must stop its aggression against the Palestinians.
Maher made the remarks to Peres when the Israeli foreign minister called to congratulate him on his new position, reported Al Ahram daily newspaper.
The paper sad that the “conversation between the two foreign ministers took a harsh tone.”
Maher said that he would expect a peace process supporter, like Peres, to influence the Israeli government to end its attacks on the Palestinians.
When Peres “cited Palestinian violence against Israel,” Maher said that television footage proved that the Palestinians were the ones being attacked by planes, tanks and boats, said Haaretz newspaper, citing Israel Radio.
Maher also said that he would be happy to meet with Peres, but only when conditions permitted and Israeli aggression against the Palestinians ended – Albawaba.com
