A driver in the Egyptian village of Tallat Al Kashef in the Delta province of Demyat killed his daughter, who got pregnant after having sex with her boyfriend, the daily Al Messa reported Sunday.

Police received notification of the suspicious death of a 20-year-old Amal Abdel Hadi, setting the sordid investigation in motion.

An investigations revealed that the victim had had an affair with a young worker from a nearby village that resulted in pregnancy. The young man agreed, under her family's threat, to marry the victim, but on the wedding day, he disappeared.

Disgraced, the father hooked his daughter up to an electric wire from one of her toes and electrocuted her until she died, then moved her body to the center of her room, claiming that she had committed suicide.

The father was apprehended and confessed that he killed his daughter “to protect the family’s honor.”

Honor crimes are common in conservative Arab and Muslim communities where sex is not allowed unless within matrimonial ties. However, the female partner in the sexual affair is almost always the victim - Albawaba.com
