Head of Egyptian Interest Section in Tehran Shawqi Ismael and Member of Parliament's Presiding Board Hossein Hashemi on Wednesday exchanged views on Tehran-Cairo relations.

Hashemi was quoted by the Iranian official news agency (IRNA) as saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran is keen to develop relations with other countries on mutual respect and confidence building.

He said that Iran is seriously following up its detente policy and cooperation with other nations especially with the Muslim nations.

Hashemi said that he was pleased with the growing parliamentary relations between Iran and Egypt and called for using the two countries capacities to boost cultural and parliamentary cooperation.

He pointed to cooperation between Iranian and Egyptian parliaments in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Islamic States Parliaments Forum and hoped that the two parliaments would further cooperate in the upcoming IPU conference due to be held in Morocco in March.

"Iran and Egypt are the two great and brotherly nations. They are expected to cooperate with the other Islamic nations to help settle the problems of the Muslim nations including easing the sufferings of the Palestinian nation," Hashemi said.

Ismael said that Iran and Egypt have excellent parliamentary relations.

He appreciated Iran's constructive efforts in international conferences including the IPU and the Islamic States Parliament's Forum as well as the Group of 77 Developing Nations. He hoped that Tehran-Cairo relations and cooperation would further develop in future. (Albawaba.com)
