An Egyptian cargo ship caught in a Mediterranean storm while heading out of Lebanon was given the approval by Israel to weather out the violent storm in the northern port of Haifa, military sources said on Friday.

The Mohammed Ali Abed Eddin was carrying seven passengers, five crewmembers and a cargo of cars when it was hit by an overnight heavy storm, according to AFP. It suffered no damage and did not need to be towed into port.

It issued a distress signal overnight and was escorted by Israeli warships into Haifa.

The ship has anchored in Haifa bay but has not been authorized to dock for security reasons due to the fact that its last port of call was Lebanon. (Albawaba.com)
