ALBAWABA - Egyptian outlets announced on Monday that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a pardon for prominent activist Alaa Abdel Fattah.

It is worth mentioning that Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, 43, has been behind bars since 2019, Al-Qahera News said.

El-Sisi issued a pardon for the remainder of the prison sentence for several convicted persons, after taking the constitutional and legal procedures in this regard, Egyptian state-media revealed.

The pardon includes Alaa Abdel Fattah, the outlet maintained.

Alaa Abdel Fattah was given British nationality after he was detained for being a leading figure in the 2011 uprising in Egypt.

Human rights activist Mona Seif, sister of Egyptian political prisoner Alaa Abdel Fattah, posted on X, celebrating the news that her brother will be released from jail by saying, "My heart will stop beating".
