Egypt is the only Arab country that took part in an educational conference in Beijing, which aims to "dramatically improve education and tackle some key problems,” according to China Times.

The meeting was officially launched in Beijing on Thursday.

Representatives of the Nine Education Ministerial Meeting passed a Beijing Declaration at the end of a three-day session.

The plan includes 16 strategies for developing education in Egypt, among other eight countries which participated in the meeting: China, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Brazil, Mexico and Nigeria.

According to the paper, the declaration reviewed educational achievements in the nine countries over the past few years and also spelt out challenges for the future. These include the need to slash the rate of school drop-outs and to turn around low school enrollment and poor classroom performance.

Under the terms of the declaration, education officials in the nine countries will strive to increase governmental financial input for education for all people. They will also make efforts to expand and improve early childhood care and education services, especially in rural areas.

Under the Beijing Declaration, officials vowed to finalize their national action plans by next year – Albawaba.com
