Egypt: Swine flu virus sample released by airport authorities

Cairo International Airport authorities on Friday confirmed the release of the first swine flu virus sample, which was sent to the region by the World Health Organization. The sample was forwarded to the regional HQ of the WHO for further research in order to identify the H1N1 virus characteristics.

 

An official at the airport said the virus arrived from Mexico to Yemen in a 2 kilogram box. He added that the airport staff that handled the dangerous shipment was ordered to wear masks to protect them from exposure to swine flu.

 

Meanwhile, 93 passengers who landed in Egypt from Mexico were allowed to enter the country after they were checked and found they were swine flu free. However, all these passengers will be under medical surveiilance during their stay in Egypt, sources in Cairo said.
