Bombs targeting Egyptian army vehicles in the Sinai border town of Rafah has left at least seven soldiers wounded Friday, according to an AFP report.

The attack was conducted during a routine military operation where soldiers destroy tunnels between Gaza and Sinai used for smuggling purposes. The operations are part of a larger government campaign to curb militant Islamists from entering Egypt from Gaza.

Earlier this week, suicide bombers killed four soldiers in Sinai's El-Arish Thursday, and three more individuals were killed from a car bomb explosion in South Sinai's capital Al-Tur Monday.

Violence has escalated in Sinai and throughout Egypt, with bloody clashes during the fortieth anniversary of the October War marking the beginning of the deadliest period in the country since government crackdowns on Morsi supporters in mid-August.
