A Muslim Brotherhood official said that there can be no stability and security in Egypt if Abdel Fattah al-Sisi becomes president of the Middle East's most populous country.
Ibrahim Munir, who is a member of the Brotherhood's political bureau, made his comments shortly after Sisi announced he was quitting the Egyptian military and running for the spot of president, Agence France Presse reported.
"There can be no stability or security under the shadow of Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the presidency," Munir told AFP over the phone from London.
Sisi was instrumental in the ousting of former Egyptian president, Muslim Brotherhood member Mohamed Morsi, and has initiated several crackdowns on Islamists. Earlier this week, a Minya court in southern Egypt handed out death sentences to 529 Brotherhood supporters.
