Egyptian courts sentenced 33 more Muslim Brotherhood supporters to six-year jail terms for participating in "unauthorized prostests," according to Agence France Presse.

Judicial sources reported that the Brotherhood members were sentenced on the basis of their support of ousted former president Mohamed Morsi and their subsequent participation in violent protests in the city of Alexandria last December. Specifically, the charges were as follows: assaulting members of security forces, carrying out acts of violence, belonging to an outlawed organization and taking part in an unauthorized protest.

Egypt's interim government previously passed a law in November banning all protests that were not sanctioned by the country's police authorities.

Many pro-Morsi supporters have been imprisoned under the law, with several hundred sentenced to the death sentence earlier this month.
