Egypt's state security court on Wednesday handed down its verdict against 26 suspected members of the alleged Hizbullah cell. The court handed the Hizbullah members jail sentences ranging from 6 months to 25 years. Four members of the cell received life sentences.
Prosecutors have called for death sentences in the trial, in which 22 of the accused are in the dock. Among the 26 suspects, only two are Lebanese.
The cell is accused of plotting attacks on behalf of Hizbullah on tourist resorts and on ships in the Suez Canal.
However, Hizbullah has said repeatedly that its only operatives in Egypt have been exclusively engaged in smuggling arms and money to the Gaza Strip.
