Egypt has banned the import of live animals and meat products from Malaysia and Turkey over fears of foot-and-mouth disease, reported the weekly Middle East Times.
Egyptian officials said that Egypt decided to ban the products after reports that the disease was circulating in Turkish and Malaysian herds.
The ban will continue until World Animal Health Organization reports show the two countries are free of the disease, Egyptian officials said, cited by the weekly.
The decision came a month after Indonesia banned Malaysian and Turkish animal imports on fears of the disease, which causes fever and blistering in cloven-hooved animals but is not dangerous to humans – Albawaba.com
