Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is due to meet members of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) parliamentary committee Tuesday in his capacity as the party leader, the daily al Gomhuria reported.
The meeting participants will designate the parliament bureau, which will consist of the chief and his two deputies.
The meeting is expected to re-nominate Ahmed Fathi Sroor for a new term as the house speaker in addition to Amal Othman and Al Sayyed Rashed as his deputies. The participants will also designate the majority representative after the former occupier of the post Mohammed Mahmoud has apologized for not accepting a new term.
The paper said that an open dialogue will take place at the meeting between Mubarak and the committee members on the political developments at the local and international levels and the efforts of the government for a welfare state. This is in addition to discussing the president’s latest visit to Spain.
Meanwhile, Mubarak will deliver a speech next Saturday before a Parliament and Shura Council joint session at the inauguration of the new parliamentary session. In the speech, the president will address the major international and regional issues particularly in the aftermath of the recent attacks in the US and the war in Afghanistan.
The president will also tackle the efforts made to salvage the peace process and resume negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
