Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher headed to the United States on Wednesday for a four-day visit, his first since assuming his post, said reports.

He will meet with US Secretary of State Colin Powell Thursday to discuss the fragile Middle East situation, enforcing the ceasefire agreement, and carrying out the Mitchell report's recommendations.

The foreign minister is also scheduled to meet with other senior officials in the US administration and congressmen, in addition to representatives of the Jewish community and Arab ambassadors to Washington.

He will also deliver a speech at the Peace And Development Council in Washington.
