Egypt’s Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher left Friday for Lusaka, heading Egypt’s delegation to the seventh session of the summit of the Organization of African Unity (QAU), scheduled to kick off in Zambia Monday, reported Kuwaiti official news agency (KUNA).
The meeting is the last OAU summit before the launch of the African Union agreed by 45 countries including Egypt.
The summit will tackle flashpoints in the African continent, including the democratic republic of Congo, Burundi, the Comoros island, Somalia, Angola, the peace process between Eritrea and Ethiopia as well as the Middle East. The Zambia summit will also follow up recommendations of the Euro-African summit which was held in Cairo last April, United Nations report on illegal trade in light arms as well as Africa’s debt problem and development issues, according to the agency.
African countries had decided to kick start the African Union next May, replacing the OAU, which was launched in May 1962 – Albawaba.com
