The Egyptian embassy in Beirut has received terror threats from ISIS [Daesh], Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk said Wednesday.
“The Egyptian embassy has informed the [Interior] Ministry in an official message that it has recently received terror threats from ISIS,” Machnouk told local daily Al-Mustaqbal.
The interior minister said security forces have been instructed to take “precautionary measures” around the embassy.
Police at Beirut airport Tuesday arrested a Syrian woman allegedly preparing a suicide bombing against the Iranian embassy in the Lebanese capital.
The arrest of Fatima al-Khalida came after the Lebanese Army sent a circular to all Lebanese security services urging her detention.
The Iranian embassy was the target of a twin suicide bombing in November 2013 which killed 27 people, including an Iranian diplomat. The attack was claimed by the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.
Fears of new bombings have mounted in Lebanon recently, with Machnouk warning in comments Monday that political assassinations would likely resume.
