Edutech, a leading provider of educational solutions and services, along with Bureau van Dijk (BvD), one of the world's leading providers of electronic business and company information to the worldwide financial community, have joined hands to organise a workshop titled ‘Banking Information for Research’. Targeting academics such as librarians, deans, heads of business and economics faculties, professors from banking and finance departments and researchers, the event will also introduce ‘BANKSCOPE’, BvD’s comprehensive, global database containing information on over 29,000 public and private banks. In addition, research experts will deliver thorough analysis of banks and their environs, including cross-border comparisons of banking sectors during the workshop, which will be held tomorrow (May 27, 2010) at the Hotel Sheraton in Amman, Jordan.
A discourse on ‘Competition in MENA Countries’ Banking Markets’ by Dr. Nedal El Fayoumi, Deputy Dean for Postgraduate Studies, Faculty of Business, The University of Jordan will be part of the event. The event will also feature a workshop titled ‘Information and Analysis for Research & Training’, which will highlight ‘BANKSCOPE’ as a flexible information solution for researching banks worldwide that combines data from seven sources and software for searching and analysis.
“In today’s information age, providing academicians access to financial data for up to 16 years, ratings, rating reports, news and detailed ownership information will be valuable in researching historical data sets and creating exercises and case studies, which can enhance relevant skill for students - skills that are welcomed by employers,” said ASF Karim, CEO, Edutech. “Our partnership with Bureau van Dijk Electronic Publishing is part of our commitment to providing the education sector with a repository of credible data and outcome-based search and analysis tools to improve quality of education and produce competent professionals. We are also looking forward to discuss our combined proposal involving ‘BANKSCOPE’ during the event, which will definitely be of interest to universities and colleges in Jordan.”
Posing significant benefits for many areas of research and development, the introduction of BvD’s ‘BANKSCOPE’ is in line with Edutech’s mission to enable academic institutions and corporates to improve performance by facilitating knowledge enrichment. With an extensive coverage spanning the top 5,900 European banks, top 12,000 North American banks, 900 Japanese banks, over 3,000 other major banks, and leading 32 supranational banking and financial organisations, the database can provide students with easy access to detailed company and bank reports, 24 hours a day. ‘BANKSCOPE’ is updated daily on the internet and 24 times a year on DVD, and can be combined with other data sources and bespoke software to create a customised credit analysis solution.
“We have gathered significant experience in delivering useful information to help private and public organisations become more efficient, and we believe that providing access to the same expansive information to educators and students will give them an invaluable opportunity to study and learn from past market trends. Having worked closely with companies across the world, we have identified Edutech as the ideal partner to highlight the potential of our market leading ‘BANKSCOPE’ application to the education sector, given its extensive reach and prominence in the Middle East. We have high expectations for the success of this initiative in Jordan,” concluded Paul Costers, Middle East Manager, Bureau van Dijk.
