Chairman of Supreme Commission of Elections and Referendum (SCER) Khaled Abdul Wahab Al-Sharif said that initial results of 6000 boxes of presidential elections that have been already counted indicated that the General People's Congress candidate, President Ali Abdullah Saleh gained 2,034,798 (some 82%) while the candidate of Joint Meeting Parties, Faisal Bin Shamlan gained 446, 412 (16%).
According to SABA, Al-Shareef pointed out that initial indications show that 5 million voters attended electoral centers.
The SCER also confirmed that several incidents during election day led to the death of director general of Khairan district in Hajja governorate Ahmed Saleh Al Tahiri, the injury of his accompany and one person dead in Taiz. In addition, three soldiers were wounded in different regions, in addition to the injury of 42 civilians.
