Dubai Women’s College (DWC) Diploma students participated in the Can Collection Drive, a part of the Recycling Campaign organized by Emirates Environmental Group. This Can Collection Drive targeted aluminum cans in UAE as a part of student CSR project. At Zabeel Park, volunteers had to roll up their sleeves for 4- 5 hours, collect cans, weigh each bag that was brought in and collect them in heaps. DWC students successfully collected 15kg of aluminum cans.
Mrs. Rita Al Roady, DWC’s Mathematics Faculty and DWC student mentor stated, “We believe that community service is a fundamental part of a well-rounded education that can't be learned from inside the classroom. Engaging in community service activities in college prepares our graduates to be productive members of the society locally and globally. I personally like to call the common service responsibility as community service opportunity. This accurately reflects the notion that community service provides opportunities for all participants. ”
DWC students mentioned that they like the idea of being exposed to new experiences that would not ordinarily have come their way. DWC believes that green education will flourish in UAE and will grow in order to create a new generation of responsible Emiratis. And this can only be achieved through engendering knowledge and understanding of the importance of and difficulties of sustainable development and environmentalism.
