The Dutch government decided Friday to equip its military with the Gill anti-tank missile, which is produced by Israel's Rafael Armament Development Authority, in a deal totaling about $250 million, reported Haaretz newspaper.

The Gill was introduced into the Israeli infantry in 1998. It has a range of 2.5 kilometers and is billed as having superior penetration capability.

Estimates in the Israeli security apparatus are that a majority of NATO armies will follow the Dutch example that prefers the Israeli missile over the Javelin missle produced by the American company Lockheed Martin, said the paper.

According to Rafael, the potential Gill missile deals could be worth up to $2 billion.

The Dutch government decision was made after Dutch Foreign Minister Ven Aartsen lifted his objections to the deal following a phone conversation last week with Foreign Minister Shimon Peres.

The final authorization for the Gill missile deal must come from the Dutch Parliament, which will discuss the issue next week, it added – Albawaba.com
